Bin Compactor

The Concept

Have you ever been in a situation where your small bins at home fill up really quickly and you cannot be bothered walking them outside to your wheelie bin? Well this concept was designed to stop this constant hassle of walking in and out all the time. The idea was to come up with a concept that crushed your everyday rubbish or recycling to minimise the amount of time you needed to go in and out. A small-scale lever bin compactor was the concept and this was to be an easy mechanism that allowed all members of the family to compact the rubbish and refill.

The Creation

The idea of the bin compactor had many changes during the time of C2C. The first idea was to build a large-scale bin compactor that had a vacuum and magnetic system to squash outdoor rubbish however two problems were encountered. The first was council allowances of the weight of the bin and the second was the idea that magnetism will attract all your cans and metal rubbish and the vacuum would break down if any liquids were present. This large-scale idea then moved to a smaller indoor scale. With much help from the science and technology teachers the students were able to design a lever system that lowered a heavy weighted object onto the rubbish and with minimal effort you would push down on this lever and the rubbish would compact.

The creation was made from wood as a scale representation however this is a project that could go far and wide on a larger scale to compact rubbish in all areas of work and trade practices.

A great idea from a great team of girls. Well done!!
