What's been happening?
NAMIG (Northern Advanced Manufacturing Industry Group) Inc
Developing an enduring culture of engagement between advanced manufacturing and technology industries and education for the benefit of Northern Adelaide and surrounds.
Great things are happening in the C2C Program here in South Australia and it is worth mentioning some real milestones.
NAMIG has had both State and Federal funding committed until the end of 2010 which allows NAMIG and all its partners to further develop and improve the full scope of the C2C Program’s suite of projects and activities.
Thanks go to the staff at the South Australian Government’s Department of Trade and Economic Development (DTED) and the Australian Department of Education, Employment and Work Place Relations (DEEWR) for their support and continuing involvement with NAMIG and for the SA and Australian governments’ commitment.
From the humble beginnings in 2005 when NAMIG worked with 125 students NAMIG is expecting over 1000 students to be participating in C2C Camps, C2C/PBL Projects and NAMIG Industry Projects over the school year with over 700 doing the C2C/PBL full semester projects.

By the end of 2008 nearly 3000 students will have had a C2C experience which has included first hand experience in understanding careers available in the advanced manufacturing and technology industries, the development of their preparation for the work environment as potentially both employees and employers and the application of the science, maths and technology they are learning in school - put to use in their C2C and Industry Projects.
Good news as well that the original group of C2C Schools has been joined by a number of other schools to share the C2C experience.
2008 C2C Schools include:
*Craigmore High School
*Para Hills High School
*Salisbury High School
*Temple Christian College
*Tyndale Christian School
*Valley View Secondary School
Fremont Elizabeth City High School
Parafield Gardens High School
Riverton and Districts High School
With another 4 schools preparing their plans for a C2C Program in their schools.
*Original C2C Schools
The schools are supported by:
UniSA
Flinders University
University of Adelaide
tafeSA
City of Playford
City of Salisbury
And a vast array of individuals who contribute their time and expertise.
Also of note are the additional industry partners who have joined the original NAMIG industry leaders. These new partners are proving to be a real asset and have added considerable scope to C2C activities.
Although we mention the industry partners elsewhere on the web site we should take the time today to list them.

Plans for 2008
The Industry Projects initiated by the industry partners have really taken off (pardon the pun) with the Genesis UAV (Uninhabited Aerial Vehicles) industry project already getting traction with schools who participated last year developing and building their own training planes using last year’s UAV students as mentors.
Tenix Aerospace (now part of BAE Systems) and RAAF are the industry partners that have developed the project criteria and will be helping students with the Genesis project. The UAV teachers as we call them have incorporated the Genesis criteria into their classes and are finding ever more interesting ways to apply physics, chemistry and in some cases biology to this exciting experience for the students and the teachers. Valley View Secondary School, Riverton and Districts High School, Craigmore High School, The Heights, Temple Christian College, Salisbury High School and Para Hills High School will all be part of the project this year along with a number of engineering and aerospace university student mentors.
BAE Systems will be working with schools on the Suburban Wetlands Aquatic Testing (SWAT) project. In a brief put together by engineers at BAE Systems students will work with BAE Systems, UniSA Mawson Lakes and the City of Salisbury to develop a water sample collection system incorporating some form of mobile collection device or vehicle using Systems Engineering principles. Students from Temple Christian College, Riverton and Districts High School, Fremont Elizabeth, and Parafield Gardens High School will be working on this challenging and exciting project. The first step will be a SWAT Systems Introduction Day in May.
GM Holden is beginning its discussions around the 2008 Holden Project which is to explore alternative energy sources and fuel savings (a very topical subject) and other improvements to the motor vehicle for the future. Parafield Gardens, Smithfield Plains and Tyndale Christian School are the first schools to put their hands up to be part of this project.
Have a look at the web site calendar to see the other exciting activities taking place over 2008. The calendar reflects confirmed activities so check at the end of each month for an update.
We are also planning a Pod cast of a C2C project as it develops. You might want to regularly check the web site to check this out as it becomes available.
Also of note is the Apprenticeship and Traineeship section of the web site. Again it is worth checking this section out on a regular basis to see what opportunities are coming up.
