A message from Defence Skills Institute - a business unit of Defence Teaming Centre Inc
The Defence Teaming Centre is the peak body for the Defence Industry in South Australia. The role of the Defence Skills Institute is to assist defence companies to access the right people with the right skills at the right time to assist companies to grow and to win more business for South Australia therefore creating more jobs over time.
Message to students
Occupations with maths, science and technology elements will be in great demand in South Australia - not just in the Defence Industry but in teaching, mining, electronics and manufacturing. Students are encouraged to study maths, science and technology subjects to year 12 to assist with gaining trade, technical or academic qualifications.
The Defence Industry in South Australia is a growing Industry and will require people with a range of skills over at least the next twenty years.
Critical trade occupations in demand into the future are:
- Electricians
- Electronic distribution/electronic instrument fitters
- Structural steel and welding
- General fabrication engineering
Critical professional and technical occupations in demand into the future are:
- Electrical and electronic engineers
- Systems and software designers
- Systems, applications and analyst programmers
- Computing Support Technicians
